The Season 2 finale of “The Four” took place on Thursday, August 2 and British pop sensation James Graham was showered in golden confetti upon being crowned the winner. Following three rounds of competition, James defeated rapper Sharaya J in the final battle to win a recording contract with Columbia Records and career guidance from Sean “Diddy” Combs, DJ Khaled and Meghan Trainor.
After the first round of performances, the studio audience felt Sharaya J was the strongest with her heartfelt performance of The Notorious B.I.G. hit “Juicy.” She was granted the power to choose her first battle and selected Whitney without hesitation. That meant James, who gave a shaky performance of “Rock With You” by Michael Jackson, would have to face off in a re-match with Leah.
With his back against the wall, James impressed the judges with a haunting and powerful version of “Hello” by Adele. After Leah sang “Golden” by Jill Scott, the panel felt James had done enough to redeem himself against the 16-year old who took him out in Week 6. The panel was less conflicted about choosing Sharaya J over Whitney, setting up an epic final battle.
For her last performance, Sharaya J owned the stage once again with her original song “Say Less.” It may have seemed like a foregone conclusion that she had the competition in the bag, but James wasn’t finished. With his spine-tingling rendition of “Fix You” by Coldplay, James had the audience roaring so loudly that the panel simply couldn’t deny him the win. But did YOU agree with their decision?
