The 2018 MTV Video Music Awards hasn’t even taken place yet but its already in the news following Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine’s rant about a supposed snub for Childish Gambino’s This is America.
In a ferocious social media post, the Voice USA judge wrote: ‘This year, Childish Gambino released one of the most impactful, thought provoking and intelligent videos ever made.’
The post went on: ‘I’m sure he doesn’t care that he wasn’t nominated for a VMA because he’s cool as f*** and everything. But I care. Because I’m NOT that cool.’
Levine then closed with: ‘And I still want MTV to mean something again. But it won’t. Ever. K bye.’
However, he was forced to backtrack and apologise to MTV after he discovered that Donald Glover’s hip-hop alter ego Childish Gambino was nominated for seven awards at this year’s MTV VMAs.
‘S***. I don’t usually put my foot in my mouth. But this time I did. ‘How I didn’t get the right info is beyond me. I stand corrected. I’m sorry MTV. Still hate you though. but Mostly… I’m Sorry,’ the rocker wrote.
This is America has been nominated in categories including Video of the Year where it will go head-to-head with the likes of Ariana Grande’s No Tears Left to Cry and The Carters’—Beyonce and Jay-Z—Apes**t.
